Comprised of numerous pieces of mixed media, audio and video, this full-scale installation pays homage to my mother and other women, Latina women in particular, who endure poor working conditions that exist in garment factories. Subjected to the inhumane work experience that thousands of women worldwide are forced to tolerate in order to keep a job that barely helps them support their families. The ominous jail cell-like structure is made from the materials one would find in a garment factory (scissors, needles, pins, fabrics, pin cushions, chairs), echoing the dangerously sharp steel blades of the garment industry, along with the deafening noise of the sewing machine motors that is a constant part of the work day.
